How to learn math by playing

How to learn math by playing
November 7, 2018

There is no better activity for children than play, and it is because games are not only a fun way to entertain, but a part of their development as well, physically and mentally.

Playing is so important during childhood that it is included in their rights, established by the United Nations in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Through games, children learn to know life, enrich their imagination, increase and promote their creativity, develop observation, exercise attention, learn to think and respond to each situation that comes up, among many other benefits.

During the school stage, children change their game habits, because they must split their time between playing and the school learning activities. It's when parents need to be more ingenious to create a pleasant environment in their homes for their children feel motivated and enjoy the time they spend studying, instead they see these activities as monotonous and tedious.

That's, precisely, the proposal I would like to make you today, to manage to turn mathematics in another game, through our program Basic Math Decoded, which was created to teach children to solve basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) for integers, fractions, mixed numbers and decimals. All problems are solved step by step, including explanations and recommendations.

Now you can turn the hard task to check your children's homework, into an easy activity, even without needing to be proficient in mathematics. You just have to enter the arithmetic problem, and you can check each step of the solution, identifying possible errors or stating the solution is correct.

Because we know children love playing, we decided to include three original games, with different levels of complexity, designed to complement the learning and practice of basic math operations, as well as to test the knowledge acquired.

The games included in Basic Math Decoded, aim to evaluate, in an entertaining way, if children master basic calculations, choosing the game and level of complexity, according to the children's skills.

It is possible to learn mathematics by playing

  • The first game, Fast calculation, presents a simple animation as an additional motivation element, which aim is the children to avoid making mistakes.

  • Basic Math game Fast calculation
  • Select the wrong answer, has some similarities with the first game, but children need a greater mastery of the calculations they must learn by heart. The exercises involve the 4 basic operators and they have to select the wrong answer out of 10 math operations presented in each problem.

  • Basic Math game Select the wrong answer
  • Fill the blank spaces, is a game where some digits have been replaced by blank cells that must be completed. This game has a higher level of complexity than the previous ones, and to solve it, children need a good understanding of the calculation procedures.

Did you find the proposal interesting? It will be very comforting to read your comments or suggestions. Download Basic Math Decoded for free and I assure you that you will enjoy seeing the mathematical progress of your children, in a completely different and entertaining environment.

Let the fun begin!
